Jade Carey Qualifies for U.S. Championships After Comeback at American Classic
Tokyo Olympic Floor Champion Returns to Competition
Comeback Win Secures Olympic Trials Berth
Just over a week after wrapping up her junior season at Oregon State University, Tokyo Olympic floor champion Jade Carey grabbed the all-around title at the American Classic in Katy, Texas. The three-time gold medalist staged a comeback on Saturday, successfully qualifying to compete at the U.S. Championships in August. The Championships will serve as the Olympic Trials for the 2024 Paris Games.
Carey's victory marks a significant return to form for the 23-year-old gymnast. After winning gold in Tokyo, she took a break from competition to focus on her studies. Her performance at the American Classic suggests that she is back in top form and ready to challenge for a spot on the U.S. Olympic team.
Other notable performances at the American Classic included a second-place finish for 2012 Olympic all-around champion Gabby Douglas. Douglas, who is making a comeback after a five-year hiatus, is eyeing a spot on the 2024 Olympic team. She will need to continue to improve her performance in order to qualify for the U.S. Championships.
